Community-Based Services

Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS)

Parents want to do anything they can to help their children—but no one can do everything on their own.

Tanager’s Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS) assist parents when a child or teen’s behaviors are serious enough to call for immediate professional intervention.

BHIS works closely with you in your home or in your child’s school to assess your needs and create a customized treatment plan. We help more than 400 families each year learn to manage difficult behaviors and emotions by teaching the life skills they need to become successful adults.

Eligibility:
Medicaid-eligible children ages 4-20 years can receive BHIS services. Children living with a relative or in a foster home are also eligible for this program. For BHIS referrals, please complete our online BHIS Referral Form or contact us at BHISreferral@tanagerplace.org or 319-286-4531.

Pediatric Integrated Health (PIH)

When you feel overwhelmed with a child who needs extra care, get help from the Pediatric Integrated Health (PIH) program at Tanager. Medicaid-eligible children with a psychiatric diagnosis and their families receive coordinated services from our professional care team. We help every child achieve their full potential while unlocking valuable resources for parents. For referrals, please complete our online referral form.

At no charge, PIH will help you and your family:

  • Find a doctor, dentist, or counselor.
  • Manage medications and prescriptions.
  • Provide advocacy and 24/7 support.
  • Get education and wellness support.
  • Answer questions and look for new services.

Now is the best time to start treatment.

If your child or teen is struggling with a mental, behavioral or emotional health issue, don’t wait to get help. Early intervention gives your child the best chance to reduce or eliminate the effects of these challenges.
